While emphasising that the judiciary is the first priority for the Delhi Government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that he is proposing a pilot project according to which no cases, either criminal or civil, will stay pending for more than six months.

He said that the Delhi government will extend full support in the implementation of the project.

“Humne Delhi me shiksha me jo kaam kiya, uski har jagah tareef ho rahi hai, humne health me jo kaam kiya, sab jagah uski tareef ho rahi hain. Bijli ke shetra me jo kaam kiya, uski sab jagah tareef horhi hai. Mai chahta hu ki judicial system bhi Delhi se nikle aur ye pilot project jo hai wo pure desh aur puri duniya ke liye ek misaal bane," Kejriwal said while speaking at the inauguration of Delhi High Court's new S Block building.

While introducing his project, he said:

“Aap sab log, hum sabko milker Delhi ko pilot bana lete hain. Aur Delhi ko pilot banake aisa system banate hain ki Delhi ke andar koi bhi case, chahiye wo civil ho ya criminal ho, hosakta hai mai aisi, baat kar raha hu jo aapko theek naa lage par ek aam aadmi ke point of view se keh raha hu ki, koi bhi case 6 mahine se zyada nahi chalna chahiye. Preferably toh kuch hi dino ke andar cases nipat jaane chahiye. Lekin maximum outer limit 6 mahine honi chahiye.”

Further, Kejriwal said that the Delhi judicial system is one of the best in the country. He said that before his party came to power, about Rs. 500 crores were spent on the judiciary and after his coming to power, Rs. 1500 crores have been spent on its infrastructure.

Moreover, while stressing the need for maintaining the independence of the judiciary, he said :

“Independence of judiciary toh tabhi rahegi jab uske paas kaam karne ke liye sufficient paisa hoga. Jab judiciary ke liye kaam karne ke liye sufficient paisa hi nahi hoga, toh wo independent kaise reh sakegi!!!”
