The Delhi High Court has set aside the Delhi government’s scheme of doorstep delivery of rations.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh pronounced the orders setting aside the AAP government's scheme titled ‘Mukhya Mantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yojana’ and stated that the scheme did not have the approval of the Lieutenant governor (LG).

The bench was hearing a plea by the Delhi Sarkar Ration Dealers Sangh challenging the doorstep ration delivery scheme of the Delhi government.

Earlier, the LG had opposed the scheme and stated that the Delhi government was violating the Nation food Security Act (NFSA).

The plea argued that it was a violation of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, Targeted PDS System Rules, and the Constitution.

"Direct the Food Corporation of India to strictly ensure that the food grains supplied by it under the PDS to the Govt. of NCT of Delhi are as per the standards fixed under the Food, Safety and Standards Act, 2006," stated the plea.

The Delhi government defended the scheme stating that the doorstep delivery scheme would prevent leakages (corruption) in the system.

The bench had on January 10, 2022, reserved its order on the plea after holding extensive hearings.

A detailed judgment is awaited.
